Vicar: Fr. Jobby John

Picture
Fr. Jobby John is an ordained Anglican priest whose ministry reflects both theological depth and a wide range of pastoral and leadership experience. Formed within the traditions of the Church of South India and now serving in the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne, he was ordained deacon in 2000 and priest in 2001. Over the past fourteen years in Australia, he has served in two Melbourne parishes, offering faithful and steady leadership shaped by earlier ministry in both rural and urban India, as well as service in the United States.
He holds a Master of Theology in Christian Ethics from United Theological College, Bangalore. With an earlier degree in English literature, he brings clarity, structure, and depth to his preaching and teaching.
Within the Church, he served as Bishop’s Chaplain in the Church of North India, a role of trust and responsibility. He has also contributed to the wider Church through service on the Synod Liturgical Board, member of diocesan church planting initiatives and multicultural affairs committee.
His involvement in the global and ecumenical Church has been equally significant. He represented South Asian youth at the Council for World Mission and participated in its council meeting. He has held leadership roles such as President of the Council of Churches in North America.
One of his most notable contributions in Australia has been his pioneering work in establishing and leading Malayalam-speaking Anglican worshipping communities in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
Fluent in English, Malayalam, and Hindi, with working knowledge of Tamil and the biblical languages, Rev. John moves comfortably across cultures and contexts. His ministry reflects a life shaped by learning, leadership, and faithful service—steady in conviction, generous in spirit, and committed to building up the Church in every place he is called.
